The brilliant green is a Japanese rock (or J-Rock) band. Tomoko Kawase (川瀬智子 Kawase Tomoko) is their vocalist; Ryo Matsui (松井亮 Matsui Ryo) plays electric/lead guitar; and Shunsaku Okuda (奥田俊作 Okuda Shunsaku) is on bass as well as acoustic/rhythm guitar. To his fellow band members and fans alike, Okuda is affectionately known as "Leader" as he composes the majority of the band's music.
the brilliant green take much of their influence from western music, most predominantly The Beatles, with over half their songs including English lyrics. Their debut album sold over one million copies in just two days, and their first national tour, 'There Will Be Love There', sold out across Japan in only three minutes. Along with the pillows and Dir en grey, the brilliant green are one of the few Japanese rock bands, or indeed artists, to gain a substantial following in America. This can be said to be mostly due to filesharing programs and word-of-mouth.
Since the release of THE WINTER ALBUM in 2002 the band members have each moved on to solo projects but the group has not officially broken up. Tomoko has started a new career as a solo artist under the names "Tommy february6" and "Tommy heavenly6". Ryo has also started a new band named "Meister".
On 2003 November 22, Kawase and Okuda announced their marriage.
Considered one of the 10 best bands of the world. (U2, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Nirvana....)
